Yolanda Polk – Louisiana Direct Support Professional of the Year
Yolanda wants clients to have the best quality of life possible. She enjoys interacting with them and says their smiling faces bring her joy. If a client is upset, Yolanda feels it’s her responsibility to determine the cause and identify a solution. They have become her family, and she treats them all that way.
“I want all my clients and everyone with a disability to be treated with love. I love my clients as if they are my family members,” Yolanda said.
Yolanda is known to most clients as “Momma,” and she has special relationships with them all. When she arrives at the homes, their faces light up. She listens when they want to talk, vent, or even sing to her, and even sings along with them.
Yolanda is an exceptional leader. She sets high expectations for her team and holds them to Company standards. She ensures the homes have the necessary items to complete active treatment, even if it takes her handmaking items. Yolanda works with the on-site nurses on monthly staff training and has put training materials together to provide staff with everything they need.
Yolanda is the embodiment of a dedicated employee. She is dedicated to her job and clients and always puts the client’s needs first. The clients, staff, coworkers, and people in the community notice her compassion and care.
ResCare Community Living Area Supervisor Yolanda Polk, the ANCOR DSP of the Year winner for Louisiana, was honored by the Louisiana Senate. Their resolution commended Yolanda for her DSP award and the work she does helping those she supports to live their best lives.
