Edward’s Story
Edward Cook came to ResCare as an ICF resident in March 2024. He had challenges being in the community prior to coming to ResCare.
He was skeptical because he had never lived in a group home setting but wanted to try it. He warmed up to his housemates once he became familiar with his environment, and he has since become a role model to them. Recently, Edward baked a pork tenderloin, potatoes, and green beans for his housemates. He set the table and poured drinks for everyone, and he loved being able to serve them.
When Edward first came to ResCare, he did not have a job but wanted to get one. He was hired by Arc of Evansville in October 2024, and he loves his job. He packages baby bottles in the workshop and is doing amazingly there. Edward has a 13-year-old daughter and will tell you, “I just want to make sure I take care of my daughter.” She loves all things girly. During the holidays, his direct support staff helped him shop for her for Christmas, and he was able to do that because of his job.
Edward especially enjoys going on outings with his housemates. He enjoys going to the movies, going out to eat, attending WWE events, and seeing Ginuwine in concert. He had a blast! Edward has started playing basketball with the Special Olympics and is excited because his team has a 2-0 record.
Edward has embraced his new life and is thriving. He recently applied for waiver and is excited to find a place of his own with a couple of roommates. He is excited about his next journey with ResCare and cannot wait for his next chapter to begin.
