Lance’s Story
Where do I start? Lance is finally home. ResCare Community Living in Austin, TX, welcomed Lance to his forever home at ICF Brushy Creek in Round Rock in June 2021. ResCare has impacted Lance’s life in so many ways.
From Lance’s Mom:
Lance can be himself and live and work around his family of friends and feel accepted. He has made progress in leaps and bounds in the three years he has been with ResCare. Lance smiles, laughs, and wants to please others and fit in. He often talks about the work he does and the friends he has made.
While I miss seeing him every day, I see it in his smile and hear it in his voice that he loves everything about being there and working for ResCare. I cannot thank ResCare enough for returning our call when we left a message. I believe God had his hands all over this move in Lance’s life and knew it was his place to call home. Lance needed to spread his wings, and this is where he was called to go. Proud of you, Lance. Love, Mom.
From Lance:
My life has changed in a big way since moving to ResCare. Before I came here, all I did was work outside in the country. My parents taught me a whole lot of life skills. I never went out to go and do things like go to movies or go out to eat very often. Since I’ve been to ResCare I am able to go and do those things.
One of the life-changing events that I have been able to do is have a job at the ResCare office. I have worked at ResCare for two years now. I started out as a janitor for a year. Then I was moved up to the front desk to answer phones and help people when they came in. I have had multiple jobs, but this is the best one that I could ask for.
I’ve had some great housemates that invited me in with welcome arms. Even though I’ve had quite a few housemates, I would not ask for a better house. I have a lot of amazing staff that have cared for me since I moved here. Since I have been going to the Dayhab, I have made a lot of friends who care about me. Since I graduated from high school, I had not talked to a lot of my friends. Having friends here to talk to has been great. I have been here at ResCare now for a little over three years. I could not ask for a better company to be with. It feels like home.
