Linda Lannin – Nebraska Direct Support Professional of the Year
Linda has dedicated her life to working with people with disabilities. She began her career as a teacher in the special education field and has spent the last 30 years with ResCare Community Living, helping individuals with intellectual disabilities live as independently as possible.
Linda’s dedication and compassion are unwavering. She can connect and communicate with her clients, ensuring they have someone advocating for them. When an individual receiving intermittent residential services in his apartment had health issues that required hospitalization, Linda spent as much time as she could with him at the hospital. She continually communicated with his family to keep them updated. Unfortunately, his health concerns made him unable to continue to live independently. Because of the trusted relationship that Linda had built over the years, she was instrumental in transitioning him from intermittent to 24/7 services. Recently, this client had to move to a skilled nursing facility, and again, Linda was a part of making his transition a success.
Linda is a strong advocate for all persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Every year, she attends the Senatorial Dinner with clients to speak with Nebraska senators to promote legislation and advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities and to approve increased rates for supporting individuals in services.
There are many client success stories in which Linda played a vital role in helping them achieve goals, and they enjoy independence because of the bond that Linda has with them and their families and guardians.
