Shannon Neece – West Virginia Direct Support Professional of the Year

Direct Support Professional Shannon truly loves her job. She is patient and provides emotional and physical support to the individuals she cares for.

Shannon has helped to improve every aspect of her client Donald’s life. She taught him to wash dishes and clothes and clean up after himself. Shannon takes Donald to socialize with neighbors, and about a year ago, he developed a close relationship with a female friend. She supported him when going to his friend’s home and out on dates, helped him identify special holidays, and helped him select gifts for her.

Shannon demonstrates leadership qualities and approaches her work with a positive attitude, even when faced with difficult situations. Recently, the agency was faced with a client hoarding situation. Shannon and Donald volunteered to help with the apartment’s cleanup. Shannon helps where needed and encourages Donald to have the same caring attitude.

Management and co-workers trust Shannon’s judgment to make the right decisions and overcome any barriers that may present themselves. She is always there to help teach and lead the staff to more positive work ethics, habits, and attitudes. She observes client and staff bonds and suggests positive forms of redirecting for smoother transitioning from behaviors. She demonstrates leadership with every client and co-worker she interacts with.

Shannon forms positive relationships with her clients and the staff she works with. She is determined to promote a healthy, safe environment for the clients and staff.
