New Jersey Direct Support Professional Receives 2021 NJACP Hero Award
ResCare Community Living is proud to announce that Direct Support Professional Lena Herman has been recognized with the 2021 NJACP Hero Award by the New Jersey Association of Community Providers (NJACP). The NJACP Hero Awards celebrate direct support professionals who have truly gone above and beyond the call of duty in the face of the global health crisis.
Lena is a Lead DSP in ResCare’s Day Habilitation Program and was instrumental in helping participants return to the in-person day program after months of virtual-only services.
Lena takes the time to understand each individual’s skills and motivations, and tailors activities that are unique to each person. Helping the individuals re-integrate safely back into a community-based schedule has been an important objective for day program reopening this year; and Lena’s creative activity planning, including mini-golf and bowling, became weekly highlights for many participants. Before long, more and more participants returned to the program and Lena was instrumental in making everyone feel welcome and engaged.
