FAQs

What if I want to go somewhere or have a job?

There is nothing preventing you from having another job or going out for a fun Friday night. The requirements would be that the individual in your care is taken care of according to their plan. For example, if you wanted to go out on a Friday night, you would set up some respite staff (which you would be responsible for and has been approved by the agency) and have them with your individual while you are out.

For work, if your individual goes to a day program or work site it is perfectly acceptable for you to have another job. The thing to keep in mind is that you are responsible for any needs if the individual gets sick, has an appointment, etc.

What does it pay?

This is all individual specific. The pay varies based on the need of the individual. Each individual is evaluated and the state sets their rate based on their needs. If over time things change for the individual, these can be looked at again. For a more accurate number, the Executive Director of your local agency will work with you to provide more financial information.

Room and board rates are developed separately and if the agency is chosen to be Representative Payee then we will work together to determine that amount as well.

What do I need to do?

Provide photos and information about your house, and yourself, which we may share with the individuals who are looking for a host home family. Be available for us to show your house to people interested.
